AKA Special Interest Plate

The deadline has been extended!  Please submit your application as soon as possible so that we may submit the initial order to the CT DMV.

The design adheres to the guidelines outlined by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.  The process involved a collaborative effort among designated members of The New Haven Pearls of Excellence Foundation, culminating in a unanimous agreement by the Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter.  Final approval of the design was given by the 34th and 35th North Atlantic Regional Directors and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Corporate Office.

The cost of the AKA special interest plate varies depending on the type of plate you request from the CT DMV.  Refer to the Special Interest Plate Application (CT DMV Form M-37) for more information. The DMV payment must be made by check or money order payable to "DMV." The check and application must be mailed to The New Haven Pearls of Excellence Foundation.

The New Haven Pearls of Excellence Foundation will charge a $25.00 processing fee that can be paid by debit card, credit card, or PayPal using the Membership Verification Form.

Only members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® may order an AKA special interest plate. Membership will be verified with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Corporate Office. You are not required to be financially active in a chapter to apply for a plate. Inactive members are encourage to order a plate.

Yes, Connecticut vanity plates are personalized with letters and numbers of your choosing.  Please ensure the personalization represents Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in a positive manner. Refer to the CT DMV Form for vanity plate pricing.

A minimum of 400 orders must be received before the Connecticut DMV will print the AKA special interest plate.  After the minimum is met, members may apply for a plate at any time using the same process.

Yes, as long as she is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, is a resident of Connecticut, and has a car registered in her name in Connecticut.

Please follow the guidelines of the Connecticut DMV.  You may order a plate as long as you meet the requirements of dual registration, are an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, a resident of Connecticut, and the car is co-registered in your name in Connecticut.

Yes.  Please submit a Membership Verification Form for each vehicle.

No, the plate can only be ordered through The New Haven Pearls of Excellence Foundation.

The processing fee paid to The New Haven Pearls of Excellence Foundation supports scholarships and other community programs in the Greater New Haven community.

The promotion among members will be executed through a robust social media campaign and the following websites: www.nhpoefoundation.org and www.akanewhaven.org.  Additionally, we will disseminate information to all chapter presidents in the State of Connecticut.  Actively encouraging the collaboration of all members, we kindly request that you help amplify the message within your communities, especially to inactive members.
